Movers and Shakers

I’ve always regarded choosing coats as I do my mates: they must be loyal, have your back and provide good support when the going gets tough. Coats function as all of the above (if you choose wisely!).

When it’s 10 degrees, pouring with rain and you’re covered in goosebumps – making sure that your outfit is on point is the last thing you feel like. Investing in a good coat is therefore like investing in a good car – you’re pretty much screwed if you don’t choose well.

For some reason I chose to get out of my coat-comfort-zone and buy something a little bit more outlandish than I usually would – a two-toned half leather/half trench coat. The first night I wore it was to a good friend’s surprise birthday – I guarded it from any stains and was so proud that no one had surreptitiously scarred my beautiful warm possession. But then I was disappointed to discover that it’s all fun and games when a whole bunch of you decide to put gold face paint on (yes we’re 21 years olds, hold your judgement) until it’s permanently on one of your winter coats that you were planning on maybe keeping forever.

(Side note: I was actually a quivering imbecile when this photo was taken haha!)

But all jokes aside, when it comes to winter coats in 2015 – don’t care about all the ‘how-to-wear-rules’ – wear them with anything. If the coat fits well and you like it – style it to your own look.  You can wear a smart suit with a parka coat or even your gym outfit with an elegant coat. I alwayyyyys wear my Nike’s with my coat. Don’t take yourself too seriously, wear your coat with whatever you want 🙂

I personally think that a good coat is worth every cent – Zara and Topshop have the best range of coats out there for Winter.

Choose wiseeeeely

Hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend 🙂

New kicks made me think

I’ve been looking at buying a new pair of trainers for a while now- and I realised that in actual fact I don’t really wear many shoes apart from my sneakers.

Are we the new generation of girl-sneaker-wearers where we edge closer into the male section of clothing stores? Take my Nike Roshe Runs for example, when I asked an attendant if they were for Males or for Females (all running shoes look the same to me) he looked at me like I was the most deficient human being he’d ever met and replied smugly that they were in fact “unisex”. Apart from feeling like an ignorant fool – I realised that I have slowly but surely been edging closer to male clothing – and it was weird.

The frenzy around the “Androgynous style” has been prominent in almost every fashion week – from the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and even Gucci. But I never really considered myself to be anything close to that – yet here I was, sitting on the seat of the Nike store with the epiphany that I was in fact androgynous whether I liked to admit it or not. But anyway – I think that’s the thing about fashion – it reflects not only your style, but your sense of character too. I love the femininity and delicacy of women’s fashion – but I also love to chill with the guys and watch a good game of rugby.

So anyway getting back to the shoes I bought – I chose a special edition, white-on-white pair of Roshe runs and quite frankly, I couldn’t be more stoked about them!

Whatcha think?

New Month – New Kicks

June is just a badass month – and to get through a badass month, you must have a badass pair of shoes.

Polite in my Polo polneck

Jackie Kennedy Onassis in a polo neck

Although no one can do it quite like Jackie O, I think that investing in a chunky Polo neck sweater is essential to create a timeless and classic look this winter. Not only is it trending this season – but it is something that you can wear forever. love love loooove

the Fanny pack just got rebranded.

There’s no word that’s as ghastly as the word fanny (hate hate HATE that word). And therefore even just the name “Fanny Pack” carries with it some major throwbacks to my mum and dad’s generation.  Throwbacks that I would much rather stay as ‘throwbacks’.

Mmmmm … But it seems not!

The newly coined “waist bag” is gaining momentum amongst fashionista’s around the world —and the appreciation is nearly devoid of irony.

It’s not normal (in an industry that tolerates 10-inch stilleto’s, fake eyelashes and lady Gaga) for fashion houses to celebrate pure utility. But it seems that they have!

I am impressed. The capabilities that fashion houses have these days is exceptional – so exceptional that they have managed a significant feat – rebranding the Fanny pack. Chanel featured them throughout their Couture 2014 fashion show and they seem to have set the stage for this fashion item. It’s quite refreshing actually! All hail the new fanny pack.

This was my favourite look because it’s nailing all the current trends: white, pastels, reconstructed skirts, strong textures and boyish tailoring.
